French nuclear regulator ASNR has launched a public consultation on the continued operation of EDF’s Generation II nuclear power reactors beyond their 60-year lifespan.

In a draft report submitted for public consultation, ASNR said it had not identified any obstacles to the reactors’ continued operation.

However, several technical issues still require significant work from state power company EDF, ASNR said. It said EDF would need to establish a safety demonstration that can be used during future periodic safety reviews of its reactors

According to ASNR, the consultation will run until 2 December this year.
