Europe ‘cannot achieve transition and fight global warming without nuclear energy’
French finance minister Bruno Le Maire called for nuclear energy to be included in a proposed EU sustainable finance initiative, despite calls from Austria, Germany, Greece, and Luxembourg to explicitly exclude nuclear from the classification scheme for investment in sustainable energy projects across the bloc.Mr Le Maire said during discussions on the initiative in Brussels that “the ambition we must set ourselves at the European level is to have a sustainable package of financial products to implement by 2020”.
