French nuclear fuel cycle company Framatome and US-based Generation IV reactor developer Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC) have signed an agreement to establish a joint venture to provide nuclear fuel for USNC’s micro-modular reactor (MMR) and other advanced reactor designs.
The fuel supply will include commercial quantities of Tri-structural Isotropic (Triso) particles and USNC’s proprietary fully ceramic microencapsulated (FCM) fuel.
The JV aims to offer “the most competitive” Triso coated particle fuels to the market and fuel supply for USNC’s MMRs while also offering a fuel supply to the future operators of other advanced reactors.
