French nuclear company Framatome and Romanian state nuclear operator Nuclearelectrica have begun the implementation phase of a project to produce the medical radioisotope lutetium-177 (Lu-177) at the Cernavodă nuclear power station in Romania.
The move follows the successful completion of a feasibility study, the two companies said.
The implementation phase will cover detailed engineering, procurement, installation and the commissioning of the irradiation system at Cernavodă-2.
The launch of a full-scale commercial irradiation service for medical radioisotopes is targeted for 2028, a statement said.
