According to the statement, the 2021 load factors for Loviisa-1 and -2 were 93.9% and 92.2%, which placed the station’s operating record among “the best in the world for pressurised water reactors”.
Both units underwent refuelling outages in 2021, lasting 18 days for Loviisa-1 and 24 days for Loviisa-2. For Loviisa-2 the outage involved the replacement of equipment, Fortum said.
Both Loviisa plants are 507-MW Russia-designed pressurised water reactor units of the VVER-440 type. Unit 1 began commercial operation in May 1977 and Unit 2 in January 1981.
The station’s previous power generation record was set in 2017 with an output of 8.16 TWh (net).
