Hungary’s foreign minister accused German Green Party ministers of blocking the Paks nuclear power station expansion project “for ideological and political reasons” and said the rapid construction of new nuclear power plants is “crucial for our country”.
Peter Szijjarto said Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has contract with a German-French consortium including Siemens to build the control systems for two new Russia-supplied nuclear plants at the Paks site in central Hungary.
He said France’s export agency has already granted permissions needed for the export of technology, but the German export agency has not.
At a press conference, Szijjarto said the European Commission had not vetoed the Paks expansion, but German Green Party ministers “were obstructing the project”.
