NuScale’s first customer for its small modular reactor has set a target for the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) of 5.5 US cents per kilowatt hour, or $55/MWh – putting it at the low end of the cost range for new reactors.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has put the LCOE for the construction of conventional pressurised water reactors in a range from $40 to $100/MWh. Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom said last year that the LCOE for VVER-1200 plants is about $54/MWh.
