TVO said that based on information provided by Areva-Siemens the Generation III EPR project is now six weeks behind a schedule provided in July, which said nuclear fuel would be loaded into the reactor in January 2020.
First connection to the grid was planned for April 2020 and the start of regular electricity production for July 2020.
Olkiluoto-3 project director Jouni Silvennoinen said although completion will be further delayed, “we are very close to the fuel loading phase and startup”. He said TVO is preparing its application for fuel loading.
Construction of Olkiluoto-3, a 1,600-MW EPR unit, began in August 2005 and is about nine years behind schedule. In March the Finnish government granted an operating licence for the unit.
