Estonia-based nuclear development company Fermi Energia and South Korean construction and engineering company Samsung C&T have signed an agreement to collaborate on the deployment of two BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Estonia, marking a significant step forward in Estonia’s pursuit of nuclear energy to ensure security of supply and support its climate neutrality goals.
Under the agreement, Fermi Energia and Samsung C&T will collaborate on the framework for the deployment of up to 600 MW of BWRX-300 capacity. The BWRX-300 is GE-Hitachi’s SMR technology and is being developed for potential deployment in the US, Canada and a number of countries in Europe.
The cooperation will focus on key aspects of the project, including the formation of an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partnership, site constructability review, cost estimate and financing strategies.
