The European Commission issued on 1 July a positive opinion on a project for the construction of two new units at the Cernavodă nuclear power station in Romania, state nuclear operator Nuclearelectrica said.

The positive opinion effectively green lights the project from a European Commission position.

Romania’s energy minister Sebastian Burduja welcomed the approval and said the two new reactors are expected to “make an essential contribution to national and regional energy security by producing clean, zero-emission energy”.
