Estonia-based private nuclear energy developer Fermi Energia and Canada-based construction group Aecon Group have signed a teaming agreement to advance cooperation on the development and deployment of GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) technology in Estonia.

Fermi Energia, which is planning to deploy SMR technology in Estonia, said the agreement establishes a framework for the two companies to work together during Estonia’s SMR development phase. The aim to develop a qualified domestic nuclear capability for Estonia modelled after the Canadian experience of BWRX-300 deployment.

Canada has approved the construction of BWRX-300 reactors for Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) Darlington new nuclear project, with the first unit planned to start operations in 2028.
