US microreactor manufacturer Deployable Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hornbeck Offshore to roll out Deployable Energy’s Unity nuclear battery for near-term projects in the maritime industry.

Hornbeck Offshore has also made a strategic investment in Deployable Energy, a statement said.

Houston-based Deployable Energy said the collaboration will combine its transportable microreactor technology with Hornbeck Offshore’s vast marine operating fleet expertise.

The companies have agreed to assess the feasibility of integrating Deployable Energy’s transportable nuclear battery technology, a type of microreactor, into vessels operating on inland waterways, offshore vessels and platforms and power barges, among other applications.
