Armenia has asked Russia to extend a $270m loan agreement for the modernisation of the Armenian-2 VVER V-270 nuclear power plant near Metsamor in the west of the country.
Russia’s state-backed news agency Tass said Russia’s finance ministry has already approved an extension of the loan, originally taken out in 2016, and the question will now be discussed “at the next government meeting”.

Armenian-2, a 375-MW VVER-V270 pressurised water reactor, is Armenia’s only nuclear unit in commercial operation.
Atomenergoremont, a subsidiary of Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom, began lifetime extension work at the plant, which began commercial operation in 1980, in June 2018.
