Poland has confirmed plans to spend €34bn ($40bn) to build its first nuclear power plants, with a projected total capacity of 6 to 9 GW and the first unit in commercial operation by 2033.
In an update of its energy strategy by 2040, the Polish climate ministry said more than half of the country’s installed power generation capacity will consist of zero-emission sources.
The sources will include the introduction of offshore wind energy into the Polish power system and the commissioning of a nuclear power plant.
