The Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulation Authority has issued the construction permit for Unit 1 of the El Dabaa nuclear new-build project which will be Egypt’s first commercial nuclear power station.

Russian developer Atomstroyexport said in a statement that the permit, along with excavation works at the site about 300 km northwest of the capital Cairo on the Mediterranean coast, is a prerequisite for the start of the main stage of construction.
