A site in the northern province of Pomerania near the Baltic coast has been selected as the preferred location for Poland’s first commercial nuclear power station, Polskie Elektrownie Jądr (PEJ), the company charged with managing the project, said.

The site, Lubiatowo-Kopalino, in the coastal commune of Choczewo, was chosen on the basis of detailed site investigation and environmental surveys conducted on a scale unprecedented in Poland.

According to PEJ, three of the key factors in choosing the site were the area’s lack of existing stable power generation, unlimited access to cooling water and the potential for transport of oversized loads by sea.
