Czech state energy group ČEZ has begun geological surveys at the planned site of a small modular reactor unit near the existing Temelín nuclear power station.
The company said the site is at the southwestern edge of the Temelín site, in the south of the country.
It said preparation for the new SMR has accelerated significantly this year with ČEZ Group to be a significant shareholder.
The geological surveys will use 30-metre-deep boreholes to examine the composition of rock at the site.
