GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH), Global Nuclear Fuel-Americas (GNF) and Cameco have signed an agreement to “explore several areas” of cooperation related to the development and eventual deployment of BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs) in Canada and around the world, a joint statement said today.
The BWRX-300 is a 300-MW water-cooled, natural circulation SMR with passive safety systems and based on a boiling water reactor design. GEH has said the BWRX-300 will require significantly less capital cost per MW when compared to other water-cooled SMR designs or existing large nuclear reactor designs.
