Poland’s cabinet has approved a 2040 energy strategy that includes plans to spend €34bn ($40bn) to build the country’s first nuclear power plants, with a projected total capacity of 6,000 to 9,000 MW and the first unit in commercial operation by 2033.
The 2040 strategy, published by the climate ministry in September 2020, calls for more than half of the country’s installed power generation capacity to consist of zero-emission sources such as nuclear.
