The practical arrangements are designed to promote cooperation in nuclear science and technology, applications, nuclear safety, security and safeguards, Asean said in a statement.
The bloc’s secretary-general, Dato Lim Jock Hoi said the arrangements are expected to serve as the overall framework for future collaboration between the two organisations.
On 20 September, IAEA and Asean representatives will meet informally to discuss possible activities under the practical arrangements.
Asean is made up of 10 countries, all of which are IAEA member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
There are no commercially operational nuclear reactors in any of the 10 countries, but a number have said they have plans for new-build.
